Otto Addo: I am unfazed by calls for my dismissal

Ghana coach Otto Addo has brushed aside mounting criticism following the Black Stars’ humiliating 5-1 defeat to Austria, insisting that public backlash is an inevitable part of the job.

The heavy loss in Vienna has intensified scrutiny around Addo’s future, with sections of the football public questioning whether he remains the right man to lead the Ghana national football team into the 2026 World Cup.

But the former Borussia Dortmund assistant coach appeared unfazed in his post-match remarks, adopting a calm and pragmatic stance despite the growing noise.

This is the job of a coach. When we lose, people are mainly trying to bring you down. I don’t really read too many things, Addo said after the game.

Even if we win, I’m not too much into social media or reading anything. Whatever people say, it’s normal, especially on an evening like this when the team didn’t play well and we also lost, he added.

Addo’s comments reflect a manager intent on shielding himself from external pressure, even as criticism intensifies over both the result and the team’s performance.

Ghana’s display against Austria exposed glaring defensive frailties and a lack of cohesion, raising concerns about the squad’s readiness ahead of crucial competitive fixtures.

For now, Addo remains focused on the task ahead against Germany on Monday, March 30, in Stuttgart, with kick-off slated at 18:45 GMT.

These games form part of the team’s preparations for the 2026 World Cup slated for this summer in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
