Eight Universities Battle for Glory as Honda University Championship Kicks Off at Aliu Mahama Stadium

The inaugural Honda University Championship is set to kick off on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, ushering in a new era of university football competition in Ghana.The five-day tournament, which runs through Saturday, March 28, will feature eight universities battling for supremacy.

Participating institutions include UMAT, UDS, UPSA, UG-Legon, UBIDS, TaTU, the University of Energy and Natural Resources, and Bolgatanga Technical University.Organizers say all teams are fully prepared and eager to make their mark in what promises to be a highly competitive maiden edition.

The championship aims to provide a platform for young football talents across tertiary institutions to showcase their abilities while fostering unity and sportsmanship among students nationwide.

At stake is not only pride but also significant financial rewards. The eventual champions will take home a trophy along with a cash prize of GH¢25,000. The first runner-up will receive GH¢10,000, while the second runner-up will earn GH¢5,000.In addition to team honors, individual excellence will also be recognized, with special awards set aside for the tournament’s best player and top goal scorer.

With anticipation building ahead of kickoff, attention now turns to the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, where the journey to crown the first-ever Honda University champions begins.
