The Ministry of Health has officially inaugurated the Health Training Institutions Advisory Boards for Nursing and Midwifery Training Colleges across the country aimed at strengthening the governance, quality and strategic direction of health professional education in Ghana.

Speaking on behalf of the Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Technical Advisor to the minister, Dr Koku Awonoor Williams highlighted the importance of professionals churn out by these health training instructions.
Our Health Training Institutions occupy a central place in the national healthcare architecture. The ability of the Ministry of Health to deliver quality healthcare across the country depends significantly on the calibre of professionals produced by these institutions. It is therefore right that we give serious attention to their governance, standard, leadership and long-term development, he said.

Dr Koku Awonoor Williams indicated that the ministry is deliberately deepening the focus on specialised nursing and professional training.
We require health workers with the specialised competencies needed to manage increasingly complex clinical conditions and deliver better outcomes for patients. He said the ministry has initiated six post basic Bachelor of Science programmes in Cardiology nursing, Critical Care nursing, Endocrinology nursing, Nephrology nursing, Oncology nursing and Emergency nursing. These programmes are being rolled out in selected nursing training colleges across the country in collaboration with the Ghana Medical Trust Fund and the University of Cape Coast.
The newly inaugurated Advisory Boards were to see themselves as entrusted with an important gorvence mandate at a critical time in the development of health professional education in the country.
Your role is to provide oversight, guidance and strategic support to ensure that these institutions are managed efficiently, responsibly and in the national interest.

In his welcome address, the Northern Regional minister Hon. Ali Adolf John admonished the advisory boards to enhance Institutional oversight and promote transparency in management.
Your selection reflects the confidence the ministry has in your expertise, experience and commitment to national development. The responsibility entrusted to you is significant while expected to provide strategic direction, support Institutional leadership and ensure that these institutions mentain high standards in training, research and professional conduct.
The inauguration of the Health Training Institutions Advisory Boards in the Northern Belt took place at the Nurses and Midwifery Training College, Tamale.
