Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has waded into the ongoing debate regarding Andrà Ayew’s potential return to the national team.
He stated that the veteran forward’s recent scoring form makes him a viable option for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking to Citi Sports, Agyemang-Badu noted that if the 36-year-old’s current performance aligns with head coach Otto Addo’s tactical requirements, a recall would be beneficial for the squad.
My brother André Ayew is playing well and scoring goals, so if the coach thinks his philosophy and game plan will fit him, then why not,” Agyemang-Badu remarked.
The endorsement follows Ayew’s move to Dutch side NAC Breda, where he found the net in a high-profile 3-3 draw against Feyenoord. This resurgence has reignited discussions about whether the country’s most-capped player should lead the team in North America.
While advocating for the captain’s inclusion, Agyemang-Badu clarified that a national team call-up is a “privilege and not compulsory,” emphasizing that the final decision remains with the technical team.
Andre Ayew has featured in nine league games, starting the last four. He has played for the Black Stars two years ago.
