The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has assured the public that Ghana has sufficient petroleum product stocks and that the national fuel supply remains stable despite concerns about developments in the global energy market.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the regulator said it had taken note of recent reports and public commentary suggesting that global energy market developments could affect fuel supply and prices in the country. However, after reviewing national stock levels and supply arrangements, the Authority said there was no immediate threat to Ghana’s fuel availability.
According to the NPA, the country currently has adequate quantities of petrol, diesel, aviation turbine kerosene, and liquefied petroleum gas to meet both current and projected demand.
The regulator explained that the assessment was conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition and key industry stakeholders to ensure that the country’s petroleum supply chain remains stable.
The Authority said the government continues to implement proactive measures to safeguard supply reliability and maintain stability in the petroleum market. These include close monitoring of national fuel stocks and coordination with international oil traders and local industry players.
As part of these efforts, the NPA is working with International Oil Trading Companies, Bulk Import, Distribution and Export Companies (BIDECs), and BOST Energies, as well as local refineries, to ensure timely imports and consistent distribution of petroleum products across the country.
The regulator also indicated that it is strengthening strategic supply planning and price monitoring mechanisms to mitigate potential supply disruptions or price volatility that could arise from developments in the global petroleum market.
The NPA urged the public to remain calm and avoid panic buying, emphasising that the petroleum supply chain in Ghana is functioning normally.
“The Authority wishes to reassure the public that there is no cause for alarm or panic buying, as the petroleum supply chain continues to function normally and adequate stocks are available nationwide,” the statement said.
The Authority added that it remains committed to ensuring reliable fuel supply, transparent market operations, and the protection of consumer interests, and pledged to keep the public informed of any major developments affecting the sector.
