Ghana’s former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has been appointed by the African Union (AU) to lead an election observation mission for the upcoming presidential polls in the Republic of Congo, the former president’s office said on Tuesday.
The mission, scheduled for 13-18 March, will observe the elections set for 15 March and include representatives from the AU Permanent Representatives Committee, the Pan African Parliament, election management bodies, civil society organizations, and groups representing women and youth.
Akufo-Addo is expected to depart Accra on Friday, 13 March, and return on 18 March, according to the statement.
The African Union routinely deploys observation missions to monitor electoral processes across the continent, providing independent assessments on transparency, fairness, and adherence to democratic standards.
