The Haruna Institute has strongly dismissed claims linking the withdrawal of a special police taskforce from the Tamale Metropolis to the Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, describing such allegations as false and malicious.
In a statement issued on March 6, 2026, the institute addressed recent developments surrounding the withdrawal of the Inspector General of Police’s Special Operations Team from Tamale and other parts of Northern Ghana.
The institute acknowledged the professionalism and dedication demonstrated by the team during its operations, noting that their presence contributed significantly to reducing criminal activities and improving public safety in the area.
However, the institute expressed concern over what it described as attempts by certain individuals and bloggers to attribute the decision to withdraw the police team to Mr. Iddrisu.
According to the institute, these claims are unfounded and appear to be a deliberate attempt to damage the reputation of the Tamale South legislator.
The institute clarified that Mr. Iddrisu does not hold any advisory role to the Inspector General of Police and is not a member of the Police Council.
As such, it stressed that he has no statutory authority to direct or influence the actions of the IGP in the execution of his official duties.
“Any suggestion that Hon. Haruna Iddrisu influenced the withdrawal of the taskforce is false, malicious and intended to mislead the public,” the statement said.
The institute further demanded an immediate retraction of the publications making the claims, warning that it would pursue legal action should the allegations persist.
It indicated that all available legal avenues, including the filing of a civil suit, would be explored to protect the integrity and reputation of the Tamale South MP.
The statement also urged members of the public to disregard what it described as “vicious and unfounded” publications circulating online.
The Haruna Institute reaffirmed its commitment to promoting truth, integrity and the protection of the public service record of Hon. Haruna Iddrisu.
The statement was signed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Haruna Institute, Abdul-Ganiyu Sandow, and copied to media houses across the country.
