Appoint A Defense Minister To Address Security Concerns – Ntim Fordjour to Prez Mahama

65

A Member of Parliament, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has questioned why Ghana has reportedly gone seven months without a substantive Defence Minister, calling on President John Dramani Mahama to urgently appoint one.

According to Ntim Fordjour, the absence of a Defence Minister raises serious national security concerns, particularly at a time when instability in parts of the West African sub-region continues to pose potential threats.

He argues that leadership at the Defence Ministry is critical for policy direction, coordination of the armed forces, and responding effectively to emerging security risks.

His call comes amid heightened concerns about regional security challenges, including terrorist activities in neighbouring countries and cross-border threats that require strategic oversight and strong defence leadership.

The MP insists that appointing a substantive Defence Minister would demonstrate government’s commitment to safeguarding the nation and ensuring that Ghana’s security architecture remains proactive and responsive.

The Presidency is yet to publicly respond to the concerns.
