Ambulance Service refutes viral video alleging failure to transfer newborn

223

The National Ambulance Service (NAS) has denied claims that it failed to respond to a request to transfer a newborn baby from the Kukuom District Hospital to the Goaso Government Hospital.

The denial follows a viral video alleging that the Service declined to provide an ambulance for the transfer of the baby due to a lack of oxygen. The alleged refusal by NAS reportedly forced the newborn to be transferred in a taxi to Goaso Government Hospital.

In a statement issued on Friday, February 6, 2026, the NAS said investigations conducted at the Kukuom District Hospital on February 5, 2026, revealed that no request was made to the Service for an ambulance to facilitate the transfer.

“No request for an ambulance was made to the National Ambulance Service by the Kukuom Government Hospital for the referenced neonatal transfer,” the statement said.

According to the statement, the Ambulance Service did not refuse any request, as none was received for the referenced neonatal emergency.

The NAS, however, condemned the unauthorized and unsafe transfer of the newborn in a taxi, describing it as a serious risk to the health and safety of the baby.

The Service further called on health facilities to strictly adhere to established emergency referral and dispatch protocols to ensure the safety of patients, particularly in critical cases involving neonates.
