Tamale, 31 December 2025 – The IGP Special Operations Team, led by DSP Bawah Abdul Jalil, was today received at the Chief’s Palace by Gulkpe Naa Alhaj Alhassan Abdullai and his elders for a security briefing and community engagement aimed at assessing recent policing interventions in the Tamale Metropolis.

During the meeting, traditional leaders praised the team’s intensified operations, including intelligence-led swoops, targeted arrests and continuous patrols, for significantly reducing criminality across the metropolis.

They singled out the arrest of drug peddlers and users and the dismantling of criminal networks as key factors behind a marked decline in offences that formerly plagued the city, such as armed robbery, attacks on mobile-money vendors, snatching of motorbikes and phones, rape (including incidents affecting tertiary students), and other violent and organized crimes.

In recognition of the improvement in public safety and the sacrifices of the security personnel, the Chief and his elders presented the team with a goodwill donation consisting of one bull and two 50-kg bags of rice.

The items were offered to support the welfare of officers and to provide meals during the Christmas and New Year period.

Accepting the gesture, the Command expressed gratitude to the traditional authorities and reiterated the importance of close collaboration between security agencies, community leaders and the local taskforce established by the chiefs.

The Command also acknowledged the vital role of timely community intelligence in enhancing the effectiveness of operations.

The statement from the IGP Special Operations Team said patrols and security operations have been intensified and will continue uninterrupted through 1 January 2026 to ensure maximum safety during the New Year transition.

The donated items have been transported to the team’s base for distribution.

The engagement, and the donation that followed, was described in the team’s situation report as evidence of growing public confidence in law enforcement efforts to restore and sustain peace across the Tamale Metropolis.

A follow-up report will be submitted at the conclusion of the ongoing patrols, the team said.
