65

Government will on Tuesday commission a passport application centre in Dambai, the capital of the Oti Region, as part of efforts to decentralise passport services and expand access to travel documentation.

The announcement was made by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who said the new facility is intended to ease the challenges faced by residents who have had to travel long distances to submit passport applications.

According to the Minister, the establishment of the Dambai centre will significantly reduce travel costs for applicants, decongest existing passport offices across the country and improve efficiency in the processing of passport applications.

The initiative forms part of a broader government programme aimed at modernising public service delivery and ensuring equitable access to essential state services in all regions.

Mr Ablakwa added that the presence of a passport application centre in the Oti Region will also support local economic and administrative activities by making it easier for residents to acquire travel documents for education, business and official purposes.

The new facility is expected to become operational immediately after the commissioning ceremony.
