The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has charged the newly inaugurated Board of the Ghana National Procurement Agency (GNPA) to prioritise value for money, strengthen governance systems, and drive the country’s industrialisation and agribusiness agenda.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Accra, the Minister stressed the need for the Board to reposition GNPA as a competitive institution capable of supporting both domestic supply chains and export-led growth.
She highlighted the importance of robust internal structures, transparency, and effective oversight in ensuring the agency’s long-term sustainability.
“I charge you to set strong governance structures, approve a board charter, constitute audit, risk and HR committees, enforce conflict of interest rules, and align your work with sector priorities,” she said.
“Adopt a GNPA strategy that supports industrialisation, agribusiness value chains, exports, and the 24-hour economy. Deliver value for money through demand aggregation, transparent tenders, and a simple price reference for key commodities.”
Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare also urged the Board to enhance GNPA’s buffer stock capacity, improve warehousing and logistics systems, and strengthen last-mile distribution, emphasising that operational efficiency remains central to the agency’s mandate.
Chairperson of the newly inaugurated Board, Rev. Ernest Kwadzo Agyei, assured the Minister of the Board’s commitment to effective stewardship and ethical procurement practices.
“Procurement is central to the effective and ethical functioning of public institutions. We must therefore conduct our duties with fairness, prudence, and an unwavering sense of responsibility to the nation,” he stated.
