President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to strengthening media freedom and upholding information integrity as a cornerstone of Ghana’s democratic governance.

Speaking at the closing session of the 2025 Paris Peace Forum, which focused on Information Integrity and Independent Media, the President emphasized that Ghana will continue to champion credible journalism and safeguard the rights of media practitioners in line with global democratic values.

President Mahama joined French President Emmanuel Macron and other world leaders to deliberate on the future of information integrity and global democracy.

He noted that Ghana’s participation provided an opportunity to highlight the country’s leadership role on the African continent in advancing press freedom and promoting responsible, independent journalism.

As a nation, we remain steadfast in advancing the frontiers of freedom, upholding the rule of law, and serving as a model for democracy and good governance, President Mahama stated.

The President further announced that Ghana has joined the Partnership for Information and Democracy as a full member and will also support the International Fund for Public Interest Media, a global initiative dedicated to strengthening independent journalism and countering disinformation.

He underscored the importance of supporting journalists and institutions that promote integrity and accountability, while also calling on global technology and artificial intelligence platforms to act with transparency and ethical responsibility.

“We must continue to support journalists and institutions that stand for integrity and accountability, demand transparency and ethical responsibility from digital and AI platforms, and strengthen international cooperation to protect information as a shared global asset,” President Mahama urged.

The 2025 Paris Peace Forum brought together world leaders, policymakers, and media advocates to explore collaborative strategies for combating misinformation, reinforcing public trust in media, and safeguarding democratic values in the digital age.

President Mahama’s reaffirmation of Ghana’s commitment to media freedom aligns with his broader vision of promoting inclusive governance, freedom of expression, and responsible information ecosystems at both national and global levels.
