Tamale, Ghana – The Mayor of Tamale, Hon. Alhaji Adam Abubakari Takoro, has announced significant progress in efforts to improve urban safety and enhance night-time visibility through the installation and rehabilitation of street lighting systems across key corridors of the Tamale Metropolis.
In a statement shared via his official social media platform, the Mayor recalled his earlier engagement with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Local Government and Rural Development, during which he raised critical concerns about the growing insecurity in parts of Tamale, a situation he partly attributed to poor street visibility after dark.

Today, I am pleased to report that we have successfully installed and rehabilitated street lighting systems along major routes including Taxi Rank to Agric Traffic Light, Agric Traffic Light to Choggu Roundabout, Taxi Rank to Taysec Junction (Vittin), the Overpass from Dakpema Palace to P.K. Gombila, and the Underpass from Dakpema Palace to Taxi Rank, he stated.
Hon. Takoro emphasized that while these achievements mark an important milestone, his administration remains focused on extending similar interventions to other parts of the metropolis.
We are not resting on our laurels. My office is in constant dialogue with the central government to ensure that no community is left behind, he assured.
He further revealed that the Ministry of Energy has advanced plans to roll out modern, energy-efficient streetlights on the principal streets of Tamale under a national project.
However, the Mayor stressed that the Assembly will not wait for the national initiative before taking action.
Whilst we await this central government intervention, let me be unequivocal: my administration will not stand idly by. We are committed to a continuous and phased improvement of our street lighting system using the resources available to us, he affirmed.

The Mayor expressed appreciation to residents for their cooperation and called on them to help safeguard the newly installed lights to ensure sustainability.
Let us all work together to protect these installations for the benefit of everyone, he appealed.
The initiative forms part of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly’s broader vision to promote safety, stimulate nightlife and economic activity, and strengthen community security within the metropolis.
