Ras Mubarak condemns threatened tire-burning protest in Kumbungu

24

Former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak, has distanced himself from an alleged planned protest in his name and called for strict enforcement of the law to deter any disturbances in the area.

In a statement released on his Facebook page, Mr. Mubarak said he had been informed of audio messages circulating on a WhatsApp platform affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kumbungu.

The messages, allegedly from an individual identified as “Hajj Hanan Kumbungu,” threaten to burn car tires in the area as a protest over appointments, purportedly on Mr. Mubarak’s behalf.

“I do not know the said character. Neither have I asked him, nor anyone to organize any form of protest in my name,” Mr. Mubarak stated.

He described the threat as a “mischievous criminal act” and urged law enforcement authorities in Kumbungu to act swiftly against any individuals who attempt to breach the law.

Mr. Mubarak emphasized that any such act would violate the Public Order Act (Act 491) and called on the police to apprehend and prosecute offenders, irrespective of their political affiliation.

“The burning of tires or any such protests without lawful authority contravenes the Public Order Act, (Act 491), and the police in Kumbungu should NOT hesitate to pick up anyone, irrespective of the party they belong to, who violates the law and process them swiftly for court,” he added.

He also cautioned party supporters to avoid actions that could tarnish the image of the NDC, stressing the serious consequences of violating the Public Order Act, which could lead to imprisonment if found guilty.

Additionally, Mr. Mubarak urged the party’s leadership to expel members whose unlawful behavior brings the party into disrepute.

The statement was copied to the Northern Regional Police Commander and the District Police Commander in Kumbungu, underscoring the need for a prompt and decisive response to the matter.

The former MP concluded by reiterating his commitment to peace and the rule of law in Kumbungu, calling on all stakeholders to prioritize the stability and reputation of the community.
