Accra, Ghana — Former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak, has filed a $5 million lawsuit against MTN Ghana (Scancom PLC LTD) at the High Court of Justice.
The lawsuit, filed yesterday, November 28, 2024 seeks compensation for damages allegedly caused by the telecommunications giant’s inability to deliver reliable services.
In a statement shared on his social media, Ras Mubarak revealed that his legal team had previously written to MTN Ghana, requesting an apology and reasonable compensation for the disruption in services.
However, the company reportedly failed to respond adequately, prompting him to seek redress through the courts.
Before initiating the suit, my lawyers had given MTN Ghana reasonable time to offer an apology and reasonable compensation, but alas, they dithered. Never must we allow big corporations to take customers for granted, Mubarak wrote.
The former MP emphasized the need for corporations to prioritize customer satisfaction and accountability.
According to him, the legal action is not just about personal grievance but a broader call for improved service delivery and respect for consumers.
MTN Ghana has yet to issue an official statement regarding the lawsuit. The case is expected to ignite discussions about customer rights and corporate responsibility in Ghana’s telecommunications industry.
This development comes at a time when several MTN users have voiced complaints about frequent service disruptions and poor customer support, raising questions about the regulatory oversight of telecommunications operators in the country.
The High Court is yet to set a date for the first hearing of the case.
