Kosmos Energy Ghana (KEG), a prominent international oil and gas company operating in the country’s deep waters, has reinforced its commitment to social responsibility with a generous donation of 3,200 student mono desks to several Senior High Schools (SHS) across Ghana.

This initiative is part of KEG’s broader social investment programme for 2024, which aims to enhance the learning experience of students in less-endowed schools.

The donation, which was carefully assessed and targeted, benefited four schools from three regions: Northern, Greater Accra, and Volta. The recipients included Savelugu Senior High School in the Northern Region, Ningo and Prampram Senior High Schools in the Greater Accra Region, and Tsiame Senior High School in the Volta Region.

On 20th February 2024, KEG donated 1,000 desks to Savelugu SHS, followed by 1,000 desks each to Ningo and Prampram SHS on 7th November. The initiative concluded with a donation of 200 desks each to Tsiame SHS in the Keta Municipality on 12th November.

Mr Appia Kyei, Director of New Ventures at KEG, led the donation team and expressed that these contributions are aimed at complementing the efforts of the government, schools, and parent-teacher associations to improve student learning conditions. He encouraged students to cherish the desks and use them to develop into future leaders.

School heads have expressed immense gratitude for the donations, particularly as they will alleviate classroom overcrowding and logistical challenges. Mr Peter Djan, Headmaster of Prampram SHS, noted that the desks would help avoid the need for students to take their WAEC exams in shifts, as previously there weren’t enough desks to accommodate all eligible candidates in one sitting.

The KEG Humanitarian Relief Initiative, which began in 2022, also supports schools with special needs, having donated to schools in the Western, Eastern, Ashanti, and Northern Regions.

Kosmos Energy Ghana’s dedication to improving educational facilities is part of its broader commitment to being a good corporate citizen and fostering community development.
